The Seasons of Your Life and Your Yoga Practice

One of the most common misconceptions is what yoga truly is. For one, in the West, we are used to thinking of yoga only in the physical sense. Most people have one idea of what the physical yoga is -- some people are used to thinking of handstands, backbends, and hot yoga studios (associated with vinyasa yoga), while others think yoga is too slow, too quiet, too boring (associated with restorative and yin yoga). Yoga can be what you need it to be. Sometimes it's never physical, and it's completely mental and spiritual.
In my mid-late 20's, I loved the hot yoga studios because I loved to sweat and work out. Vinyasa yoga offered me a work out and a really nice stretch. Now in my 30's, I'm a mom to a toddler and what I need most is restorative, slow practices. When I was postpartum, my yoga practice was completely mental and spiritual. Yoga teaches us to let it be, which ever chapter of your life you're in - be there, listen to your body and what it's asking you for, and obey it's innate needs and wisdom. What season are you in? How are you honoring the wisdom of your body?
